3 Quotes and 3 Thoughts

Kelvin Magtalas

I’m back with another one of these, where I share quotes and some thoughts I’ve had this week. Instead of quotes from various books I’ve been reading, these quotes are from the first chapter of Bell Hook’s All About Love. The truth is that I haven’t been reading much these past weeks (occupied with family) and I’m now getting back to the groove.

I started reading All About Love a few hours ago, and I just cannot think of another author right now more perfect for this. Upon finishing this book, I intend to do a proper deep dive, stay tuned for that:)

“It’s far easier to talk about loss than it is to talk about love. It is easier to articulate the pain of love’s absence than to describe its presence and meaning in our lives.” - Bell Hooks, All About Love

“Ultimately, cynicism is the great mask of the disappointed and betrayed heart.” - Bell Hooks, All About Love

To begin by always thinking of love as an action rather than a feeling is one way in which anyone using the word in this manner automatically assumes accountability and responsibility.” - Bell Hooks, All About Love

Walking away and saying no are the most difficult to do. The fear of losing an opportunity or navigating a world of artificial scarcity adds to this.

Social media is to blame for countless issues we face, but the existential crisis that its users face exists outside of it too. Taking temporary breaks is valuable, but it’s a band-aid solution to a bigger problem that plagues society.

When none of this matters, it becomes a game. Only then is the fun unlimited and the pain recognizable.
