Top 4 Blockchain Security Threats
I’m back with two of my favorite things to learn about, cybersecurity and blockchain technology. Blockchain data and applications can be susceptible to attacks without cracking cryptography. Decentralization, immutability, and use of cryptography are the key components of blockchain technology. Cryptography is most fascinating in the context of cryptocurrency.
The following is a list of security threats intended to be simple and easy to follow, enjoy:)
The Major Two: Users and Interfaces
As we have seen this past year with non-fungible tokens (NFTs) - users are the most vulnerable and the easiest to attack. Security-wise, this is especially challenging to implement long-term solutions due to ever-changing attack vectors.
Data
Data written to and accessed by blockchain tech presents a security risk. Blockchain data is cryptographically secure, but the data might not be legitimate. Endpoint vulnerabilities, anywhere an individual is accessing any form of data, are sensitive to security weaknesses. Bad actors exploit this to their advantage.
Smart Contracts
A smart contract is code. And smart contracts will become a critical piece of digital infrastructure. Depending on how its code is written and its intended purpose, a bad actor can infiltrate or use it to their advantage. When deploying, security controls should be in place to assess risk.
Ultimately, a bad actor will prey on users since that represents the path of least resistance.
